Meeting Reminder Date: Monday, 8/22 Time: 7p-8p
We're meeting tomorrow night at the Chamber.
If you haven't been to a meeting in a while, come and hang out with us
for an hour...we'll be glad to see you again. Also at the general
membership meeting, learn the levels of chairing a project. There will
be a panel discussion on what it takes from people who have done it.
This is the perfect time to ask questions. And no, we won't be twisting
anyone's arms aftwards! We'll also be collecting items for the
"Support-A-Soldier" drive, see below.
Support-A-Soldier
We
are currently collecting items to send a large package to a unit of
reserverists in Iraq. Getting a lot of the basic neccessities can be
difficult in a country devasted from war...Wal-Mart ain't exactly
around the corner. During the next two meetings, bring in
non-perishables, cheap candy (for the Iraqi kids), personal products,
and fun stuff for the troops. We want to fill a large box, similar to
the Boy's Home project in June. For the complete list click here. This drive will be continued through the Sept. 12th meeting.
Book Club: Harry Potter and the Half-blood Prince Date: Saturday, 8/27 Time: 1p-3p
We're going to dish about the latest Harry Potter. Come out to the Skylight Exchange at 405 1/2 W. Rosemary street. The Skylight Exchange is a very cool used bookstore/cafe. Contact Kim Winson if you have any questions.
POE Put-together Date: Saturday, 8/27 Time: 6p-9p
POE=Parade
of Excellence. Simply put, it's a way to keep track of the myriad
projects that each chapter runs. Projects are divided up into
categories by the state organization, i.e. "Community Development,"
"Individual Development," etc., and they are assigned a certain number
of points. The system is designed to encourage chapters to run a
variety of projects so that the "programming" is well-rounded. (It
sounds so cult-like, doesn't it?) The four categories are: community
development (CD), individual development (ID), management (fundraisers
and newsletters, in our case), and administrative (stuff like
membership retention). POE is also used as a way to recognize
individual projects, like our Platelet Donation project earlier this
year. Chapters send in paperwork for POE at the end of every trimester
(4 months), and the State recognizes the Top 10 Chapters, as well as
outstanding projects, at each convention. It's kinda exciting to see if
our projects and our chapter gets an award from the State.
So, now that you know
what POE is, you're invited to sit-in and watch the officers put
together the POE paperwork this Saturday. It's an interesting process
and a great way to learn the inner doings of the Jaycees. We're
converging on Amber Neill's house and ordering pizza. Please email Amber if you'll be coming (Officers, please RSVP as well, it just simplifies things).
Dinner Time at Ronald McDonald House Date: Monday, 8/29
Time: 5:30p-7p
We'll be doing another cookout, so come ready to grill. We also need a few people to bake some yummy desserts. Contact Peter DeStaebler if you're interested in coming/providing dessert.
Guests are welcome to all of our events and meetings.
