Meeting Reminder Date: Monday, 8/8 Time: 7p-8p
A
reminder that our General Membership Meeting is Monday night.
We'll be discussing the results of the membership survey. There will also be two projects running at the meeting:
Adopt-A-Soldier:
We have the opportunity to gather supplies for a military unit
dispatched to Iraq. Basically, we are looking to collect personal
hygiene stuff, used paperback books, canned food and powdered drink-mix
with sugar, like Kool-Aid (but not Gatorade). Bring
these supplies to any meeting from now until September 8th. Help
someone smile from across the miles. The full list is quite varied,
please contact Tim Miller to get the list emailed to you. See you at the meeting!
Also at Monday's meeting...our last collection for "Seeds of Change"
will occur. This project collects pocket change in a flower pot...we
then count up how much money there is and donate the sum to a charity.
The charity for this round of "Seeds of Change" is the Duke Cancer Center.
Chapel Hill is going to match whatever the fundraiser collects. Small
things can grow into big things...thus they are the "seeds of change."
Durham Bulls Game Fundraiser (Selling Beer) Date: Thursday, 8/11
Time: 5:15p-9:30p
Our
very last Durham Bulls Fundraiser this year will be this Thursday.
We'll be selling beer during the game at one of the beer carts. Melissa
Feder has the following people signed up so far, but it is not too late
to join us! Contact Melissa Feder if you're interested in helping out.
Tim Miller and Kim Winson(5-6:30 only to help set up) Sara Hogan Rob Thompson Erin Robinson Sarah Crouch from the Cary Jaycees Whitney Kahn (by 6:15) Todd Dawson (by 6:30 Kristi Baleno (by 6:30)
Happy Hour: West End Wine Bar Date: Friday, 8/12 Time: 8:30p-?
Come
hob-nob with wine snobs on Franklin Street. Discussions about "bouquet"
and "good legs" are not required (in fact, we might look at you kinda
funny...), just come hang out with your Jaycees pals. Check out the
rooftop ambiance. Contact Tim Miller for more information.
NC Jaycees Executive Meeting: Duke Cancer Center Date: Saturday, 8/20 Time: 10a-2p
Come
out to the NC Jaycee Executive Committee meeting at Duke University.
Watch the executive team in action, get freebies, stay for an excellent
lunch and cap it off with a tour of the outpatient cancer treatment
facility. There may be a carpool. RSVP to
Brody Underhill so that they know how many people to expect for lunch. His cell phone is 619-5413.
AIDSWALK + RIDE, Raleigh Date: Saturday, 8/20 Time: 6p-7p
Our current donations are at $455!! THANK YOU. The Jaycees Team ROCKS. Once again, I hope to have a team of 15 and...raise $1,000.
Every success starts with a dream...
If
I told you that at least ten young motivated women and men were walking
one-mile in downtown Raleigh on one of the hottest days of this summer
to help people living with HIV/AIDS, would you support us?
Very
soon, Jaycees from (currently) three North Carolina chapters will be
participating in a very special and powerful event, the
Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area AIDSWALK + RIDE. The participating
Jaycees chapters are Chapel Hill, Cary, and Raleigh.
This event is being held to raise thousands of much needed dollars to
aid those suffering from the effects of HIV and AIDS in the triangle
area.
On August 20, 2005, at least ten North Carolina Jaycees
will join 1,000 other walkers, in addition to 300 bicyclers in the
inaugural AIDSWALK + RIDE. The Jaycees AIDSWALK Team is looking to
raise $1,000, 1?^2 of which will support the Duke Pediatric AIDS Unit.
It would be awsome if members from many NC chapters joined our team. We
need your help...would you help us in one or all of the following ways?
1)
Join the Jaycees AIDSWALK Team. Any current or former Jaycee, their
friends, and their family are welcome. Any individual of Jaycee age
(21-40) is welcome. Anyone who makes a donation is welcome. Join online at
http://aidswalkandride.kintera.org/teamjaycees.
2) Would you please make a pledge to help us reach our $1,000
goal? Click on the link and decide the amount that is right for you.
Please keep in mind the how hot and humid it will be that day, as well
as the dedication and the motivation of the Jaycees team. We are
enacting the closing line of the Jaycees Creed, "Service to Humanity is
the Best Work of Life." Donate online at http://tinyurl.com/a4anl.
3)
Help our team spread the word. Mention our efforts to your friends,
family, and co-workers. Show this letter to them. Let them know that
there are young women and men that are working hard to improve the
health and well-being of those in need.
Thank you in advance for
your time and generosity. It means a great deal to the Jaycees AIDSWALK
Team, to me, and to those that we are helping. Contact Kim Winson (secretary@chapelhilljaycees.org) with any questions.
Guests are welcome to all of our events and meetings.
