Volunteers get to keep an equal portion of whatever tips we make (that means $$$ in your pocket!), get a coupon for a free meal, and even have an opportunity to watch parts of the game! AIDSWALK + RIDE, Raleigh Date: Saturday, 8/20 Time: 6p-7p
Our current donations are at $260!! THANK YOU. The Jaycees Team ROCKS. Once again, I hope to have a team of 15 and...raise $1,000.
Every success starts with a dream...
If I told you that at least ten young motivated women and men were walking one-mile in downtown Raleigh on one of the hottest days of this summer to help people living with HIV/AIDS, would you support us?
Very soon, Jaycees from (currently) three North Carolina chapters will be participating in a very special and powerful event, the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area AIDSWALK + RIDE. The participating Jaycees chapters are Chapel Hill, Cary, and Raleigh. This event is being held to raise thousands of much needed dollars to aid those suffering from the effects of HIV and AIDS in the triangle area.
On August 20, 2005, at least ten North Carolina Jaycees will join 3,000 other walkers, in addition to 300 bicyclers in the inaugural AIDSWALK + RIDE. The Jaycees AIDSWALK Team is looking to raise $1,000, 1?^2 of which will support the Duke Pediatric AIDS Unit. It would be awsome if members from many NC chapters joined our team. We need your help...would you help us in one or all of the following ways?
1) Join the Jaycees AIDSWALK Team. Any current or former Jaycee, their friends, and their family are welcome. Any individual of Jaycee age (21-40) is welcome. Anyone who makes a donation is welcome. Join online at http://aidswalkandride.kintera.org/teamjaycees.
2) Would you please make a pledge to help us reach our $1,000 goal? Click on the link and decide the amount that is right for you. Please keep in mind the how hot and humid it will be that day, as well as the dedication and the motivation of the Jaycees team. We are enacting the closing line of the Jaycees Creed, "Service to Humanity is the Best Work of Life." Donate online at http://tinyurl.com/a4anl.
3) Help our team spread the word. Mention our efforts to your friends, family, and co-workers. Show this letter to them. Let them know that there are young women and men that are working hard to improve the health and well-being of those in need.
Thank you in advance for your time and generosity. It means a great deal to the Jaycees AIDSWALK Team, to me, and to those that we are helping. Contact Kim Winson (secretary@chapelhilljaycees.org) with any questions.
Guests are welcome to all of our events and meetings.

News and Notes
Meeting Recap: 10 second summary Thank-you to Mayor Mike Nelson. We truly enjoyed his visit; the open Q&A session was great! Also thank-you to Joel Pierce, for conducting the new member orientation. Our next meeting is August 8th, see you all there!
AIDSWALK Part II: The Beneficiaries The funds that the Jaycees Team collects will benefit two AIDS-related organizations. One-half of the donations will benefit the Alliance of AIDS Services-Carolina ( AAS-C) based in downtown Raleigh. The AAS-C, provides support services and programs to North Carolinians living with HIV and AIDS, their loved ones, caregivers, and the community at large. AAS-C has become the largest AIDS service agency in the Carolinas. For more information, visit www.aas-c.org.
The other half of the funds will benefit the services and research provided by the Duke Pediatric AIDS unit. AIDS affects all ages of human beings, from newborns to teen-agers, to young women and men just entering college. Children affected by AIDS will have the hardest battle?chaving been infected at an earlier age, they will have to live with the effects of HIV, the relentless treatment, and the associated stigma for much longer. Did you know that there are very few, if any HIV drugs designed specifically for children? Pediatric AIDS research is truly just at the starting gate. Most of the HIV drugs have been trialed on adults?cwith the results extrapolated to children. They need your help. Once again, please consider joininig the team or donating online. Join on line at http://aidswalkandride.kintera.org/teamjaycees or donate online at http://tinyurl.com/a4anl
LEAD Training: Sept. 10th-11th LEAD is a top-notch two-day seminar to designed to help you become a more effective leader--both in the Jaycees as well as other aspects of your life. The focus will be to teach Leaders the key roles that they must play and the abilities they must have in order to be successful in any domain. This training is open to all current and prospective Jaycess. It will be held at the Greensboro Jaycees headquarters. Please note that we need at least 20 individuals from all over NC to hold for this program; this is due to the structure of the seminar. I have no current information on cost, but it will probably be $75 + hotel and food. Contact Kim Winson (secretary@chapelhilljaycees.org) or Joanie Cramer (joaniecramer@bellsouth.net) if you're interested.
"Plant the Planter" Chairperson Needed Believe it or not, the Chapel Hill Jaycees have a few planters located right outside Top of the Hill. We need someone to coordinate the planting and maintence of the planters. This is a perfect opportunity for those with green (or not so green) thumbs. The chairperson will be resposible for coordinating with the Friends of Downtown Flower Box Project coordinator. Further responsibilities include: 1) Buying or get flowers donated. 2) Recruit folks to help plant and maintain the flower box and 3) update the online calendar with this information. Contact Tim Miller at communitydevelopmentVP@chapelhilljaycees.org for details.
And the money comes in... Thanks to the hard work of our volunteers, and the members from the Cary Jaycees, the chapter has received a check for $625.25 from working the last two Bulls games. Thank you!! Woohoo!!
