Events
Meeting Reminder Date: Monday, 7/11 Time: 7p-8p
Melissa Korey, the program manager for the Duke Cancer Center will
be our guest speaker at the meeting. A program manager is the liason
between the NC Jaycees and their major charities. Melissa will be
discussing ways we can get involved and what's going on at the Center
now. Please join us! In addition, don’t forget that we’re currently
doing the Seeds of Change for the Duke Cancer Center.
What is the Seeds of Change, you ask? We’re collecting your pocket
change at every meeting in a flower pot to be donated to the Duke
Cancer Center on August 20th at the NC Jaycee Executive Committee
Meeting. Questions? Feel free to contact Christina Jaromin or Brody Underhill (cell 619-5413)
CPG Training Date:Tuesay, 7/12 Time: 7pm
The Chairman's Planning Guide,
or CPG, is a form used by the NC Jaycees to judge projects and for
institutional memory. In Chapel Hill, we use a PDS, or Project Data
Sheet. While a PDS is a simplified CPG, it's always good to know how to
fill out the original before starting on the simplified. The Cary Jaycees
have been kind enough to invite us to come to their training. If you're
interested in learning a little more about Jaycees procedures, contact Christina Jaromin for carpooling information.
Durham Bulls' Concessions (Selling Beer) Date: Friday, 7/15 Time: 5:15p-10p
This
is a really fun fundraiser for our chapter! We will be running one of
the concession stands at the Durham Bulls game. The Chapel Hill Jaycees
will receive 11.25% of the net sales generated from the stand that we
run. Volunteers will need to be at the athletic park approximately 1
1/2 hours prior to the start of the game. Friday night games are at
7pm. Contact Melissa Feder if you're interested in helping out.
Asian Grocey Store Field Trip Date: Saturday, 7/16 Time: 1p-2p
Shop with Tim Miller and Kim Winson and learn what is carried in a typical Asian market and what to look for. Location TBA. Contact Tim Miller for more information.
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat Date: Sunday, 7/17 Time: 7p-10p
It's a tongue-in-cheek re-telling of the biblical story of Joseph. Sheena Easton is the female lead. Elvis is the Egyptian pharoah...what could be campier?! Meet at Kim Winson's
place and carpool over to Raleigh. Tickets have been purchased.
However, anyone who has purchased tickets after that date is still
welcome to carpool with us. Contact Kim with questions.
Eat at Joe's Date: Saturday, 7/23 Time: 2p-10p
Come one and all to Joe Beal's to cook out on the grill. Eat, drink and enjoy good company. He will provide
the grill, dogs, burgers and some sides. Bring anything you would like
to cook, a side dish to share, tunes and BYOB. The deck is covered so
rain won't be a factor. E-mail Joe for directions to his place.
AIDS Walk and Ride Date: Saturday, 8/20 Time: 6p
300
riders, over 1000 walkers, and you! Join us in downtown Raleigh as
AIDSWALK goes the distance. It is the same day as the Duke Cancer
Center tour--so if you're in town for the tour it would be a short
drive over to Raleigh for the walk. Please feel free to forward this
email to anyone who would be interested in the project.
Our Jaycees Team
will be participating in the one-mile walk. We welcome new team members through August 19th. Any
current or former Jaycee, their family and friends, and any young
professional of Jaycee age (21-40) is welcome to join the team. For
more information, please email Kim Winson (secretary@chapelhilljaycees.org). Individuals can also join the Jaycees Team online at http://aidswalkandride.kintera.org/teamjaycees .
You need not be on the team to show your support, donations to the AIDSWALK are highly appreciated. You can donate online at http://tinyurl.com/a4anl
AIDS
is one of the top killers of individuals who are of Jaycee age. AIDS
services encompass more than medical treatment. They include support
services like a food pantry and emergency financial assistance. This
walk is a great way to show our support for AIDS services here in North
Carolina.
Guests are welcome to all of our meetings and events! |
