News and Notes
Convention Wrap-up The first trimester Jaycees convention was this past weekend, hosted by the Greensboro Jaycees. Christina Jaromin, Amber Neill, Kim Winson, and Sharon Worthington made up the Chapel Hill delegation and we all had blast. Between the four of us, we attended several seminars; the topics that were covered ranged from traveling made easy, protecting yourself from identity theft, and even a public relations panel of experts. However, the best was indeed saved for last: Chapel Hill placed in the TOP 10 chapters for the state (first trimester)!! This means that our events and more importantly, our members, totally ROCK!! As a member of the Board, I want to extend my congratulations and my sincere appreciation to the chapter. You all are what makes our chapter great. The North Carolina Jaycees recognizes all of you for your enthusiasm and your time. Chapel Hill ROCKS! One of our projects was also recognized as the best community development project for our division. Our chapter pulled together for one of our members, Christina Jaromin, in support of a co-worker who was desperately in need of platelets (a kind of blood transfusion). Since every platelet donation can be split up to serve up to three individuals, not only did Christina's co-worker get the help he needed, but potentially 11 other individuals were able to receive a life-saving blood transfusion! Amazing how even a little bit can go a long way. Last but not least, our very own James January was recognized as being one of the best Program Managers (PM) for the first trimester. Program managers are the liasons between state level priority projects and the individual chapters. James is the PM for the UNC Burn Center, right here in Chapel Hill. His job is to raise money for the Burn center; the goal this year is $100,000. Our chapter will donate $250 from the Yard Sale in support of that goal. James travels extensively throughout the state and the country in support of burn survivors. Again, on behalf of the board and the chapter, I extend our congratulations and our sincere thanks to James for his hard work!
